Cosy wintertime with your dog and cat: How to make your home really cosy āļøš¾
It's getting cosy in the house again, snuggle time has begun! š¤
2025 is drawing to a close and we're putting our colourful woollen socks back on. The days are getting shorter, the walks colder, and we're spending more time indoors again ā together with our pets.
To keep things from getting dreary, we have some wonderful ideas for a cosy Christmas season with your dog and cat at home.
1. Set up cosy corners for warmth and comfort
In winter, dogs and cats particularly enjoy warm places to retreat to. Set up a special place for them in every cosy room:
- Fluffy dog blankets & cosy cat blankets ā Flora
- Orthopaedic dog beds for better joint support ā Barca
- Cave beds for cats for more security & warmth ā Perla
- Soft carpets instead of cold floors
āļø Winter tip: Older animals and dogs with joint problems in particular benefit from thick, supportive bedding.
2. Indoor activities: Burning off energy despite the cold
When walks are shorter, dogs need more mental stimulation at home.
For dogs
- Intelligence games ā Tubo or Dado
- Lick mats to combat winter stress ā Volpe or Aperitivo
- Trick training or target work
For cats
- Interactive toys ā Rotolo or Catnip
- Food mazes & lick mats ā Aperitivo or Pesce
- Scratching mats ā Pannello
āļø Winter tip: Activity toys ensure peace and quiet, better sleep and less frustration in winter.
3. Create rituals: Shared winter moments
Winter is bonding time. Create regular rituals such as:
⨠Evening cuddle time on the sofa
⨠Weekly "Advent surprise" (a massage or new snacks)
⨠Pet-friendly tea time: herbal tea for you, dried snacks for animals
4. Winter care: coat, paws & hydration š¾
Care is also important indoors.
For dogs
- Paw balm to protect against road salt and cold cracks
- Coat care for undercoats
- Nutritional supplements
For cats
- Regular brushing reduces hairballs
- More scratching areas, as there is less exercise outdoors
- Additional fluids via broth or high-quality wet food, as indoor spaces are often dry in winter
5. Safe & stylish Christmas decorations
Christmas yes, but please be safe:
š« avoid:
- Tinsel & gift ribbon
- Glass baubles
- Scented candles
ā better:
- LED fairy lights
- Felt & wooden baubles
- Fabric decorations in natural colours
Always supervise when animals are near decorations!
6. Christmas gifts for dogs & cats š
Pets are part of the family - of course they get a gift too!
